Week 192 – November 1st, 2014

”Places to go” (#1) topped the chart last week for the first time. This week Anouk didn’t gave way to pressure by Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift’s first single from her new album “1989” “Shake it off” (#2) climbed up one spot, but failed to reach the summit. It had been very close between these two songs and Hilary Duff’s “All about you” (#3) for the top spot. Although slipping down one spot “All about you” is still good for a return at #1. Indie rock band Walk the Moon reached a new peak with “Shut up and dance” (#4). The Top 5 rounding out are Broods with their “Everytime” (#5).

While the Top 5 saw some position changes the situation between the spots 6 and 10 is different. At #6 you can find the last position change within the Top 10. “Fools gold” (#6) dropped two spots and is now outside the Top 5 for the first time since four weeks. All other acts hold their position. Starting with Juli to Nick Howard. Juli withstood the pressure so that “Insel” (#7) is still the best charting German song on my chart and the only one in the Top 10. After reaching an all-time peak by last week Maroon 5 failed to do the next step with “Animals” (#8). Absolutely the same I can write about Matt Cardle. His beautiful “When you were my girl” (#9) nevertheless underlines the thesis that his songs are slow climbers. The Top 10 is completed by Nick Howard’s 2nd Top 10 hit this year, but “Dancing as one” (#10) also only hold the spot this week.

The only song which I could see new in the Top 10 by next week is “Heathen” (#11) by Jillette Johnson. Sure “Trouble” (#14) by Natalia Kills is relatively new on my chart and on its way up with a three spots climb, but here I feel that a Top 10 position will be too soon for this song by next week. “More of you” (#17) another song by Goo Goo Dolls sprinted into the section between 11 and 20 with a climb of six spots. This song has the momentum, but I think the Top 10 is out of reach for next week.

Let’s go to the greatest gainer of the week. This song is caught between two songs which also climbed up the chart. “The days” (#22) by Avicii feat. Robbie Williams climbed up seven spots after debuting last week. Swedish sensation Zara Larsson climbed up six spots with her latest hit in Scandinavia “Rooftop” (#24). Because of these climbs this week’s greatest gainer is captured in a Swedish double coverage. After a climb of 32 spots this week Madi Diaz’s breakthrough single “Stay together” has to break out of this double coverage next week.

Hands up who already knew this singer before I charted “Stay together” which is the 2nd official single from her 4th album “Phantom”. I understand. I didn’t know her either although she has released three albums between 2007 and 2012. So I listened to the two albums she released in 2012 which contain some interesting Indie pop songs, but in general I wouldn’t have bought these albums. In 2012 she moved from Nashville to L.A.. This you can notice on her 2012 albums, because her 3rd album “We threw our hearts in the fire” which is produced in L.A. is a little bit more influenced by electronic music. With her new album “Phantom” she finally accomplished the change in her musical style, which you already could heard in her 3rd album. In general “Phantom” is a very interesting album where Madi Diaz shows that she is ready to step out of the lowlands of the music business.

The highest debut is by a well known Portuguese act on my chart. “Wonder why” (#55) is a wonderful duet by The Black Mamba and Aurea. This song is out of the debut album “Dirty little brother” by The Black Mamba. “Wonder why” could easily be one song from Aurea’s last two albums and should do well on my chart. This song is followed by three more debuts. One is by Taylor Swift’s promotional single “Out of the woods” (#56) and another one by recent Australian X-Factor Marlisa with “Stand by you” (#58).

Other debuts are “Erfinde mich neu” (#57, “Invent new me”) by 48 Stunden, “Sound of a broken heart” (#80) by Jukebox The Ghost, “So there” (#81) by Alexa Goddard, “Good days” by Sasha, “One last time” (#95) by Ariana Grande and “Give it up” (#98) by Kutiman feat. KarMaRedd.
