Week 191 – October 25th, 2014

Two months ahead from us this year and a new artist looking from the throne. Anouk finally did it. With her 8th #1 hit “Places to go” she set a new history mark on my chart. “Places to go” is her 2nd #1 from her upcoming album “Paradise and back again”, because “You & I” (#62) will also be released on this album. Hilary Duff’s run at #1 ended with a short drop. “All about you” is still very good, but this song had to climb down, because of the pressure by Anouk. The podium is completed by Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” (#3). Some weeks ago I wrote that this song is a candidate for #1. Nothing has changed since this time, but it is a little bit harder but possible. For a 3rd week Fitz and the Tantrums are sitting at #4 with “Fools gold”. A pretty cool song, but maybe this song is at the end of the journey upwards. The Top 5 is closed by a new song. Walk the Moon climbed up one spot with “Shut up and dance” (#5).

Also climbing up one spot are New Zealand’s Broods. An infectious “Oh oh” in the chorus is heaving their song “Everytime” (#6) to a new peak. With this climb they let Juli back. Their #1 smash “Insel” (#7) went down two spots and has to fight for a Top 10 spot by next week. But “Insel” is still among my top played songs so the chances are high that this song will be next week in the Top 10 too. Finally Maroon 5 reached their best chart position ever on my chart with “Animals” (#8). A Top 5 spot is in sight for them. Why are Matt Cardle’s songs are always climbing so slow? I can’t answer that question. I like his songs, but “When you were my girl” (#9) is a good example for that. In its 9th week “When you were my girl” reached a new peak and it could go higher when you compare this song with his other hits. For the first time in the Top 10 is Nick Howards’s “Dancing as one” (#10). It’s nice to see that a 2nd song by him is ending in the Top 10. Maybe “Dancing as one” is outperforming is previous hit “Can’t break a broken heart” which peaked at #8 for four weeks this summer.

Welcoming a song in the Top 10 means to say goodbye to another song. This time I lost former #1 “The great unknown” (#11) by Jukebox The Ghost. A great song, but the time in the Top 10 is over for this song. Generally it will be hard that a song from this week’s spots between 11 and 20 will reach Top 10 next week. One candidate will be Jillette Johnson’s “Heathen” (#13). This week “Heathen” climbed up seven spots. Another candidate would be Natalia Kills’ “Trouble” (#17), but this song struggled a little bit although it climbed up two spots in its 3rd week.

The highest new entry is by a famous Swedish DJ who had last year a smash with “Wake me up” where he featured uncredited Aloe Blacc. This time Avicii teamed up with Robbie Williams and once more he didn’t give a credit to the singer. For both this collaboration is their first chart appearance in a while. “The days” (#29) is a well produced dance song with a Robbie Williams at his best. The 2nd best new entry still debuted within the Top 50. It’s by Rachel Platten who rose first famous with “1.000 ships” which I didn’t chart. “Fight song” (#36) is her first single which is reaching this part of my chart, because “Work of art” only peaked at #98 back in 2012.

Other new entries are “Stay together” (#58) by Madi Diaz, “Wait on me” (#82) by Rixton, “Vanish” (#83) by Marié Digby, “Wrapped up” (#84) by Olly Murs feat. Travie McCoy, “Texas” (#85) by Magic Man, “I don’t want to talk about it” (#86) by Marit Larsen, “Body language” (#92) by Robin Stjernberg, “Earthbound” (#97) by Moya and “Weary stars” (#98) by Michael Paynter.
