Week 188 – October 4th, 2014

Like last week this week is none of the more eventful weeks. Nevertheless it is interesting to see that Hilary Duff’s “All about you” (#1) is blocking Anouk’s “Places to go” (#2) from topping the chart. Her song climbed up one spot and overtook German song “Insel” (#3) by Juli. With the title track of their new album they had one week at the top. I’m curious which influence this album to my chart will have. Directly behind the podium of my chart is Taylor Swift. “Shake it off” (#4) is continuing the good strike she had with her last album “Red”. If “Shake it off” could climb up to #1 it would be her second lead single in a row to reach the top spot. The Top 5 is closed with “Fools gold” (#5) by Fitz and The Tantrums.

The first time after eight weeks Jukebox The Ghost dropped out of the Top 5. Their Indie pop gem “The great unknown” (#6) is one of three Indie pop/rock songs in my Top 10 which is a new record. And at the moment Jukebox The Ghost are the most successful Indie pop band on my chart this year. Behind “The great unknown” there are two non-movers. The first one is “Starlight” (#7) by Taylor Swift and the second is former #1 “Ma che vita fai” by Emma who is battling for my artist of the year against Anouk. At #8 third Indie band Walk the Moon came straight in with “Shut up and dance” after a climb of three spots. Last week they failed to do this step, but this week their infecting “Shut up and dance” made use of the advantage of the opportunity to reach the Top 10 after the drop out by former #1 “Mein Herz (für immer)” (#11) by Austrian band Tagträumer. The Top 10 is closed by Revolverheld with “Wir schmeißen unsere Herzen ins Feuer” (#10.)

Outside the Top 10 New Zealand’s Broods are in the best position to get into the Top 10 by next week. Their “Oh oh” in “Everytime” (#14) conveys a lightness which the song itself doesn’t has. I always like songs with darker lyrics and “Everytime” is no exception. So they can be the next Indie band in my Top 10 which brings this genre up to four by next week, if none of the actual Indie bands in the Top 10 is dropping out. Macy Kate with “You gave me love” (#16) and Professor Green feat. Tori Kelly with “Lullaby” are also at the ready. These songs have a good chance to do the last step by next week, but they aren’t in such a good position as the Broods. And I shouldn’t forget about Matt Cardle. With his single “When you were my girl” (#19) from his third album “Procelain” he reached for the first time the Top 20. He had several Top 10 hits before and I believe that this song is his next top hit on my chart.

The highest new entry is by the singer who had this year a hit with “Can’t break a broken heart” (#60). It’s Nick Howard who rose famous in Germany with the win of 2nd season of “The Voice”. As “Can’t break a broken heart” his actual single gets a little airplay on the radio. “Dancing as one” (#29) is also out of his “Living in stereo” album. It’s another pop gem by this British export to Germany who should receive more attention although he had won a casting show. In my opinion “Dancing as one” is a sure shot for a Top 10 hit, but I fear apart of my chart this song will not get a lot of attention. This weeks greatest gainer is “Here for a reason” (#46) by American Christ Rock band Ashes Remain.

Other new entries are “Auseinandergehen ist schwer” (#67, „Breaking up is hard“) by Wanda, “Baptized” (#78) by Daughtry which has been released to Germany radio two weeks ago, “Too cool to dance” (#79) by Eden xo, “Wicked game” (#91) by Lauren Winans, “Sie kann nicht tanzen” (#96, “She can’t dance”) by Jan Delay and “Verbotene Liebe” (#99, “Forbidden love”) by Linda Hesse.
