Week 249 – December 5th, 2015

With big steps the year 2015 is going to an end. With this edition the last month of the year has been opened and still at #1 is Adele’s “Hello”. For a 6th week this song is topping my chart. Only one song by Leslie Clio topped my chart longer this year. I’m pretty sure that “Hello” will do well in my year-end, but more in a later edition. For the first time in the last few weeks it had been a tough decision for “Hello” being my #1. Leslie Clio’s “Eureka” (#2) isn’t far behind and next week Leslie Clio could gain her next #1 which would bring her up to four this year. Still at #3 is Taylor Swift’s “Wildest dreams”. At #4 the next non-mover can be found. It’s “Feiah fonga” by Austrian band Krautschädl. The first song climbing up within the Top 10 is “The first time” (#5) by Madi Diaz. “The first time” is a nice alternative electronic pop song which bring Madi Diaz back into the Top 5.

Alternative band MisterWives is also doing well. “Best I can do” (#6) climbed up one spot and is now knocking heavily at the door to the Top 5. Austrian band Tagtraeumer are knocking a little bit harder at the door. Their song “Nichts” (#7) climbed up five spots and is the newbie within the Top 10. I bet that this song will not stay long in the lower part of the Top 10. By next week “Nichts” will be in the Top 5 at least and than Tagtraeumer will attack the #1. For Selena Gomez the Top 10 run with “Same old love” (#8) is going to an end after a drop of two spots. Tove Lo’s “Not on drugs” (#9) dropped four spots. The Top 10 is rounded out by another dropper. Aubrey Peeples country pop song “Tell me” (#10) dropped one spot, but anyway she could celebrate this week.

In the next part of this 249th edition of my chart the highest debut can be found. It is by German newcomer Alex Diehl. I’ve to point out that I’ve not heard about him before. After the attacks in Paris he wrote “Nur ein Lied” (#17, “Just a song”). “Nur ein Lied” is a very down-to-earth song. It is all about a man singing with his guitar. The lyrics are very meaningful and powerful. In general this song is standing in the line with other peace songs like “Ein bisschen Frieden” (“A little peace”) by Nicole who won the Eurovision Song Contest with this song, John Lennon’s “Imagine” which is referenced in this particular song or Bob Dylan’s “Blowing in the wind”.

Two more songs debuted within this week’s Top 50. The 2nd best is by Austrian band Seiler und Speer. All with them began as fun project. Now they are really big in Austria. Their song “Ham kummst” (“Coming home”) topped the chart and now their 2nd single “Soits lebn” (#39, “Should live”) debuted in Austria as well as on my chart. Both songs are in the tradition of the Austro Pop and "Ham kummst" is hitting the spirit of the time. In the US country music scene there is a particular trend with songs about drinking beer, drinking whiskey or so on. “Ham kummst” and “Soits lebn” are definitely part of this general genre without being country songs at all. Normally I’m not into this particular songs because I don’t drink any alcohol, but I absolutely can understand why these songs are such big hits for this band.

The other debut within the Top 50 is by German and maybe Austrian girl band La Goassn. One of the members of this band could be from Austria, but I’m not sure about this fact. This week they are debuting with the B-side of their single “Mehr mehr mehr” (“More more more”) which dropped out of my chart this week. “Weil ich ein Mädchen bin” (#47, “Because I’m a girl”) is a cover of one of my favourite tunes of the 1990’s by Lucilectric. “Mädchen” (“Girl”) had been Lucilectric’s first hit and their follow-up “Hey Süsser” (“Hey sweatheart”) topped the chart in Austria. I love both songs and I really like the cover of “Mädchen”.
