Week 250 – December 12th, 2015

Yahoo! We’re goin’ to a celebration. It’s absolutely amazing to celebrate the 250th edition of my chart. Nearly five years ago I started again to do my countdown and since this time I’ve discovered such great music. Many of the songs I’d not have discovered if not doing my personal chart. So thanks you for the music. Such a celebration can’t be done without a little recap and statistic part.

Back in March 2011 is re-started charting and I opened with a #1 from Austria. Do you remember Anj Major Dude? Their debut single “July July” topped my chart for four weeks and ended as #17 in the shortened year-end review. The promising career came to a standstill since this time. Only a Nirvana cover of “Heart shaped box” also made it into my countdown, but since “July July” it is quite calm about them. My first every year-end winner in 2011 had been Adele’s “Turning tables”. What a wonderful song! Not even her short break changed her domination as “Hello” shows which topped my chart for six weeks until this week. Later you’ll find out if there is a chance for a 7th week at the top. In 2012 Matt Cardle’s “Starlight”, in 2013 Jillette Johnson’s “Torpedo” and in 2014 Emma’s “L’amore non mi basta” topped my year-end chart. Emma’s song had been the 1st song not in English to reach this position. In a total with this edition 1843 artists/bands debuted on my chart with 2946 songs. In about five or six weeks I should surpass the 3000 mark. It is a nearly unbelievable number of songs I listened to in the last years.

Writing about records I’ve to mention “Receive” by Alanis Morissette which topped my chart for 10 weeks in two runs 2012 and 2013. The most successful artist is Anouk. Among 31 charting songs she had 14 Top hits and nine #1’s including this year’s smash “New day” or the #2 of 2014 “I won’t play that game (live)”- the highest charting live song. Anouk spent 146 weeks in my Top 10 and generated 588 charting weeks with all of her songs. But among all these records the record for the longest charting run goes to Italian Emma. “L’amore non mi basta” charted for 64 weeks with 27 weeks within the Top 10. Only three songs outreached the year mark. The others had been “Receive” (60 weeks) by Alanis Morissette and “Torpedo” (53 weeks) by Jillette Johnson.

But enough of the records, let’s go to the countdown of the 250th edition of my chart. Last week Adele topped my chart for a 6th consecutive week with “Hello”. And what is better to celebrate the 250th edition with a new #1. Leslie Clio took over with “Eureka” (#1) and knocked Adele down to size. So “Hello”'s (#2) place is now the runners-up position. “Wildest dreams” (#3) by Taylor Swift is completing the podium, but the pressure is high. Austrian Tagtraeumer are now for the first time in the Top 5 with their new hit “Nichts” (#4, “Nothing”). It’s another gem by them and if it goes well “Nichts” will be the bands next #1. This leads my to Madi Diaz who had a #1 last year with “Stay together”. “The first time” (#5) is a very good song, but because of the new Tagtraeumer single “Nichts” I didn’t see her reaching #1.

Directly behind the Top 5 is the one and only new song within the Top 10. It is by French singer Sindy. In Austria French singer Louane with “Avenir” and Austrian Zoë with “Mon cœur a trop aimé” are very big in these days. However I go with the relatively unknown Sindy. Her single is working better for me and so “Je m’en fous” (#6, “I don’t care”) did the last step to reach my Top 10. One spot behind is former #1 “Feiah fonga” (#7) by Austrian band Krautschädl which lost three spots. Alternative act MisterWives also dropped two spots with “Best I can do” (#8). At the bottom of the Top 10 Selena Gomez with “Same old love” (#9) and Tove Lo with “Not on drugs” can be found.

The highest debut is placed nine spots behind this week’s greatest gainer which is “Damage done” (#38) by Leslie Clio. It is unbelievable how well her songs are doing for me at the moment. “Damage done” is no exception and so it is only a matter of time when this song will enter my Top 10, but back to the topic. The highest debut is by German Jamie-Lee Kriewitz. You don’t know her? Me neither! A look at the calendar points out that it is December. And since a few years December is the time when all the participants of the Voice or X-Factor shows over the world release their maybe winning singles. Jamie-Lee Kriewitz debut single “Ghost” (#47) is the favourite in this year’s season of The Voice of Germany. Last year’s winner Charley Ann Schmutzler is lost in the orbit, although I really love her winning single “Blue heart”. “Ghost” isn’t the only song from The Voice of Germany which can be found in this week’s edition. Other debuts from this show are “Loveless” (#51) by Austrian Denise Beiler – her sister Nadine Beiler won the Austrian version “Starmania” back in 2007 –, “Ich wünschte du könntest das sehen” (#89, “I wish you could see it”) by Dimi Rompos and “Queen of the night” (#96) by Mary Summer. The only song in the final will be “Ghost” because the other candidates from The Voice of Germany dropped out. From X-Factor Australia “History” (#86) by Louise Adams and “Nothing matters” (#87) by Jess & Matt gave their debut.

Other new songs without a casting show background are “Monster lead me home” (#61) by Sara Hartman, “Run or hide” (#62) by Run River North, “Demon days (do it all again)” (#88) by Wild Wild Horses, “Am Boden” (#90, “On the floor”) by Ado Kojo, “Pushing through” (#92) by Caitlyn Shadbolt, “Don’t you give up on me” (#95) by Lissie and “Tell me if you know” (#97) by Letty.
