Week 332 – July 8th, 2017

Once again it had been a rather calm week mostly because I moved flat. So I hadn’t the time to check out all the great music. Nevertheless there is a new #1. For the first time Lady Gaga is leading the pack. Against the international trend I really appreciate “The cure” (#1). She changed the spots with Cold War Kids. “Can we hang on?” (#2) had only been my #1 for a single week. Still at the podium is Canadian Shawn Mendes. His beautiful “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” (#3) stays at the podium for another week. Following on the heels of is the next Canadian singer. Carly Rae Jepsen climbed up one with “Cut to the feeling” (#4). Leslie Clio is rounding out the Top 5 with her former #1 “And I’m leaving” (#5).

Once more the 2nd half of my Top 10 is opened with “Lust for life” (#6) by Lana Del Rey feat. The Weeknd. The way into my Top 5 is likely closed, but they oppose against falling outside the Top 10. Next in line is British singer Ed Sheeran. Last week “Galway girl” (#7) had its first week in my Top 10. This week “Galway girl” climbed up one spot. Behind this song you can find two former #1’s. First to mention is German Wincent Weiss with “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” (#8, “Only a heartbeat away”). Then there is GJan with “Wasn’t easy” (#9). Last but not least in my Top 10 is country by Marren Morris. Her song “I could use a lovesong” (#10) is holding its spot for a 2nd time.

“Stupid girl” (#59) by Madeline Juno climbed up 15 spots and had been awarded the greatest gainer. Madeline Juno isn’t unknown on my chart, because she had several Top 10 hits from her debut album. I personally don’t really like her 2nd album “Salvation” and because of that this is her only song I’m charting from this album. In the meantime she has released some songs in German. Here I’m torn. At the moment I’m not sure if I chart such a song from her anytime soon.

As I pointed out I hadn’t the time to check out new music this week. But there are still four new entries you can find. The highest one is “If this is love” (#80) by Ruth B. “If this is love is following “Superficial love” (#51) which fell out of my Top 50 this week. The 2nd highest debut is “Clouds above” (#92) by Akkadia. In the early 2000’s the mashup “Take me to the clouds above” by LMC vs U2 had been a big hit in Austria. Now British act Akkadia is covering this mashup. Other debuts are “Stardust” (#93) by Perttu feat. Sam Shrieve and “Rollercoaster” (#94) by KTEE.
