Week 331 – July 1st, 2017

It’s July and I’ve to announce that there is a new #1 on my chart. For the first time US band Cold War Kids are reaching the top spot with their single “Can we hang on?” (#1). They climbed up one spot which also Lady Gaga did with her song “The cure” (#2). These two songs place “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” (#3) down two spots and so Shawn Mendes is now completing the podium. The only song in my Top 5 holding its spot is “And I’m leaving” (#4) by German Leslie Clio. After a long absence Carly Rae Jepsen is returning to my Top 5 with her sweet “Cut to the feeling” (#5).

For now four weeks in a row Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd are stuck at #6 with their hymn “Lust for life” (#6). I hope they will do this one last step, but “Lust for life” is in its 9th week on chart and so I think this train has left the station. Down two spots is the German song “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” (#7, “Only a heartbeat away”) by Wincent Weiss. Caught between two former #1’s is one of two new songs in this part of my chart. Let’s welcome Ed Sheeran. While “Shape of you” (#67) is on its way out of my chart “Galway girl” (#8) climbed up five spots to reach a spot in my Top 5. Several weeks ago I didn’t believe that this song will ever reach such a high peak, but over the weeks I’ve to point out to absolutely fell in love with this beautiful song. It’s definitely no “Shape of you”, but absolutely worth to be a Top 10 hit. “Galway girl” is followed by “Wasn’t easy” (#9) by GJan. Also new in my Top 10 is country by Maren Morris. For her “I could use a love song” (#10) is her first Top 10 hit.

As last week there aren’t a lot of new entries. So let’s find out which song is the greatest gainer before I write something about my debuts. In its 4th week “Don’t count me out” (#30) by Kate Voegele sprinted up the chart with a climb of 17 spots. Although “Don’t count me out” had been placed behind “World stops spinning” (#36) over the last three weeks with this week this song is taking over the internal lead. The highest debut is by Norma Jean Martine. This US singer had two charting hits last week with “Animals” (#56) and “No gold” (#57). This week she is placing two more singles on my chart. The highest debut is the super sweet “Still in love with you” (#49). This song is the reason why I found out about her debut album which I bought in the meantime. I’m sure that “Still in love with you” is a future Top 10 hit. The other debut by her is “I want you to want me” (#50) which is also a very good song. And maybe this song will peak as good as “Still in love with you”.

Other debuts are “Dance like nobody’s watching” (#60) by Marija, “Maria” (#62) by Armando Quattrone, “Bulletproof” (#63) by Vida Noa and “Legends” (#83) by Kelsea Ballerini.
