Week 333 – July 15th, 2017

An exciting music week is ending with this little chart review. Once more there are only a few new songs debuting, but several songs sprinted up the chart and so a lot of a fresh new sound can be found within my Top 30. As always let’s start with my Top 10. Last week Lady Gaga took over for the first time. This week she defended the title with “The cure” (#1). Back among my Top 2 songs is Shawn Mendes with his “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” (#2). Since her debut with “Call me maybe” (peaked at #6) Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen is a well-known artist on my chart, but until today she hadn’t many Top 5 hits in her pocket. In fact before releasing “Cut to the feeling” she had only two hits in my Top 5 which had been “Good time” (peaked at #4 in 2012) where she was featured on an Owl City track and “This kiss” (peaked at #5 in 2012 too). Five years later “Cut to the feeling” (#3) outperformed all these tracks when it reached this weeks Top 3 with a one spot climb. Up three spots is Ed Sheeran with “Galway girl” (#4) which is followed by last week’s #2 “Can we hang on?” (#5) by Cold War Kids.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 isn’t opened by Lana Del Rey feat. The Weeknd. Their song “Lust for life” (#12) dropped out of this part of my chart. So the way was free for a up climb by Wincent Weiss. Although there is only a little chance for “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” (#6, “Only a heartbeat away”) is returning to #1 this song had a very good week. While German Wincent Weiss climbed up for the other German singer in my Top 10 Leslie Clio it went in the other direction. “And I’m leaving” (#7) dropped two spots. The rest of my Top 10 is filled up with three new songs. The highest of these songs is “Greatest lovers” (#8) by British singer-songwriter Luke Sital-Singh. “Greatest lovers” had been a regular single back in 2014, but now three years later this song reached my Top 10 for the first time in its first chart run. Another new song in this part is “Burn” (#10) by Anouk. “Burn” is the first song from “Fake it till we die” which reached my Top 10. It’s no #1 material as all the songs from “Queen for a day”, but still not bad.

At #8 there is “Greatest lovers” and at #10 there is “Burn” which means that there must be another new song at #9 which I didn’t mention yet. The missing puzzle is “Unendlich gleich” (#8, “Infinitely equal”) by Austrian band Tagtraeumer. Last week this song sat at #33 and there hadn’t been a sign that this song will be awarded the greatest gainer of the week in its 8th week on chart. On Friday I saw them live in Wels at the “MusikFestiWels”. At the two-day City-Open Air with free entry they had been the headliner on Friday. Before them Austrian singer Lemo was on stage who had only one chart hit with “Vielleicht der Sommer” (“Maybe the summer”) which peaked at #41 back in 2014. I didn’t saw Lemo” live, because I joined the Open Air when Tagtraeumer had their gig. It had been my first concert. I know that I’m very old for such a premiere, but hey better late then never. Tagtraeumer promoted their upcoming album (will be released in August) and played several hits from their debut album “Alles OK” (“Everything OK”) including my #1’s “Sinn” (“Sense”), “Nichts” (“Nothing”), “Mein Herz (für immer)” (“My heart (for always)”) and “Brücken zum Mond” (“Bridges to the moon”). The live performance of “Unendlich gleich” gave this song the last push into my Top 10. Since Friday you can pre-order their new album with this song and their new single “Straßenlaternen” (“Streetlights”) which they also played. With the pre-order release they betrayed who the female part on "Unendlich gleich" is. It is by Austrian singer Chrissi Klug who had been part of Luttenberger Klug and now works as a radio host in Styria. On the album "Unendlich gleich" is now a duet between Tagtraeumer and Chrissi Klug. Because of that I'm naming her now on my chart too. All in all it had been a great show. On the next day I saw a band from my childhood. EAV also had a great show with many songs from their 40 year career, but unfortunately I hadn’t a good view as on Friday.

The highest new entry is by US singer Ne-Yo. Over the years he had some hits and now he is in at #57 with “Another love song” which should do well on my chart. Other debuts are “Nobody” (#64) and “Me & my girls” (#98) by Selena Gomez, “Little white lies” (#87) by Betsy, “Walking the wire” (#88) by Imagine Dragons and “All my love” (#89) by Cash Cash feat. Conor Maynard.
