Week 338 – August 19th, 2017

For a 2nd week Kate Voegele is topping my chart with “Don’t count on me” (#1). Kate Voegele is the first of three artists who have now two Top 10 hits. This is the first time in history when this happens. Her other Top 10 hit “World stops spinning” (#5) dropped one spot. The 2nd “Top 10 twin” is Aurea. Her song “Killer” (#2) is now in the runner’s-up position and could be her 2nd #1 on my chart and the first since six years. Her other Top 10 is “Blind woman” (#8) which climbed up six spots to get its first week in this part of my chart. And the last but not least “Top 10 twin” is Norma Jean Martine. She is at #3 with “Still in love with you” and at #9 “I want you to want me”. “Still in love with you” is fighting for #1 over the next weeks and this one would be her first one. “I want you to want me” reached its first week in the Top 10 after a climb of six spots.

Beside these “Top 10 twins” there is a drop of Carly Rae Jepsen's former chart topper “Cut to feeling” (#4) which dropped two spots. Then there is “Straßenlaternen” (#6) by Tagtraeumer. This song climbed up two spots and is knocking to the door to the Top 5. Down two spots is Luke Sital-Singh with “Greatest lovers” (#7). Back in this part of my chart is Selena Gomez with “Nobody” (#10). “Nobody” is an album cut from “Revival”. While this song is now in my Top 10 her latest non-album singles “Bad liar” and “Fetish” are waiting for a debut.

Speaking about debuts bring me to this weeks new songs. All in all there are 16 debuts. The highest debut is by Pink. She returns with “What about us” (#41). This song isn’t really pop/rock oriented. It is more in the dance direction which is popular at the moment. I like this song, but for me she had better songs in her repertoire. So “What about us” got a solid debut and the future will show where the journey will end. Pink is followed by Austrian singer JackTheBusch. He had released his debut album “So is Leben” (#So life is”) back in 2015. No song from this album found its way to my chart. Two months ago he released his new song “Blinder Passagier” (#42, “Blind passenger”). I’ve not heard this song until this week when it was played on my favourite radio station. I really like this dialect song and so it shoots straight into my Top 50 and brings him his chart debut.

Two more songs got their debut in my Top 50. First to mention is the new song by Kungs. Last year Kungs had a Top 20 hit with “This girl”. The new song is “More mess” (#49) where Olly Murs and Coely were featured. “More mess” isn’t bad, but I doubt that this song will reach the same spheres as “This girl”. The other one is “Bout you” (#48) by Xuitcasecity. They are a pop/hip hop duo from Tampa (Florida). Normally this is not the kind of music I’m listing, but with “Bout you” they have a song in their pocket which brought them easily into my Top 50. I’ve listened to their other singles too and I’m sure that at least one of these songs will be found on my chart in the future.

Brandyn Burnette.
