Week 460 – December 21st, 2019

Over the last two or three months I hadn’t as much time to listen to new music as I would. So I’m running a little bit late in debuting some of the bigger hits. And there is another interesting fact about my chart in these days. When I re-started charting back in 2011 I had rather long waiting list (in some weeks this list had more than 100 songs on it) for my Top 100. On this waiting list for several weeks had been “Torpedo” by Jillette Johnson which had become one of the biggest hits to date. Over the years this waiting list was reduced to zero songs, but since several weeks I reactivated this waiting list which is now up to about 30 to 40 songs. I really don’t know why, but for the moment this works and I hope to reduce this list as fast as it is possible.

So let’s see how this last week which counts for the 2019 review is ending. Still at the top is Selena Gomez with “Lose you to love me” (#1). This song is now in its 4th week at #1. Also holding its spot is “Io sono bella” (#2, “I am beautiful”) by Emma. I love this song and I’ve pointed out before that her new album “Fortuna” isn’t bad. Breaking the record for the longest run within the Top 3 is “Higher love” (#3) by Kygo & Whitney Houston. This song is now in its 17th week in this part of the chart. Over the last weeks there hadn’t been a change within the Top 5, but this week one song from my waiting list shot straight into the Top 4. It is a song by a Canadian artist who had only two hits before. The first time The Weeknd entered the chart had been in November 2014 with “Love me harder” when he was featured on the Ariana Grande song. This song peaked at #13. The other song The Weeknd charted had been the 2017 song “Lust for life” where he was featured on the Lana Del Rey track. This one has been his first and only Top 10 hit before this week’s debut. “Lust for life” peaked at #6. Now he celebrates a comeback with the 80’s reminiscence “Blinding lights” (#4). “Blinding lights” is the first out of two Top 10 debuts in this week’s edition. These are also the first Top 10 debuts since March 2018. I can’t believe that “Zusammen” (“Together”) by Die Fantastischen Vier feat. Clueso has been the last Top 10 debut before these songs. Rounding out the Top 5 is “Besch ready für die Liebi vo mer” (#5, “Are you ready for the love with me?”) by Hecht.

Next in line is the 2nd best debut in this week’s edition. It is the first single from Alanis Morissette’s upcoming new album. “Reasons I drink” is her first single since “Superstar wonderful weirdos” back in 2015 which peaked at #4. I love her album “Havoc and bright lights” which produced several Top 10 hits including her #1 smash “Receive”. This song spent 10 weeks in two runs at #1 back in 2012/13. “Reasons I drink” is definitely a song which could do as well as “Receive”, but with “Blinding lights” out the chances of topping this is low. “Reasons I drink” is followed by “Used to love” (#7) by Martin Garrix & Dean Lewis. Up one spot is Stella Lennon with “Kissing other people” (#8). She is now the third highest ranked Canadian artist. Also up one spot is “French” (#9) by Kate Voegele. And last but not least to mention is “Malibu nights” (#10) by LANY. This song entered the Top 10 after a two spot climb.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Before you go” (#44) by Lewis Capaldi which climbed up 15 spots. Other debuts beside the Top 10 debuts are “Crush” (#79) and “Goddess” (#80) by Avril Lavigne, “Ein Teil von mir” (#82, “A part of me”) by Gil Ofarim, “Schatzi” (#91, “Honey”) by Edmund, “Unsere Geschichte ist erzählt” (#93, “Our story is told”) by Revolverheld, “Uhren auf Anfang” (#94, “Clocks at the beginning) by klea, “Sinking in” (#95) by Katelyn Tarver feat. Jake Scott, “Kapitän” (#96, “Captain”) by TOCHTER and “Behind the wall” (#97) by Ashton Edminster.
