Week 510 – December 5th, 2020

After five weeks at the top Blackpink had to leave with their song "Lovesick girls" (#2). They were replaced by Italian Emma and her song "Mascara" (#1) which is now her 3rd #1 in 2020. I absolutely love her "Fortuna" album and "Mascara" is no exception. This mid-tempo pop/rock song deserves this spot and although I think she had better #1's I really like this one. Still at the podium is "Hot stuff" by Kygo & Donna Summer. Next in line is the regular single "Latina" (#4) by Emma which is still climbing up in its 11th week on chart. Maybe this one continues the trend to reach the Top 3. New in the Top 5 is German singer Leolixl with "Vielleicht verliebt" (#5, "Maybe in love"). Sure I liked this song very soon, but at first I didn't thought that this one will end in the Top 10 or even in the Top 5. The time went on and this grows on me more and more so I've to point out this one is possibly the most unexpected Top 5 hit in 2020 (beside the COVID #1 by German act Die Ärzte).

Down to spots is "Little bit of love" (#6) by Kesha. This is definitely a good song, unfortunately a little bit overplayed by myself. Dropping one spot is former #1 "Midnight sky" (#7) by Miley Cyrus. Directly behind you can find "Macarena" (#8) by Ina Regen. Have I mentioned before that I don't like Los Del Rio's "Macarena"? I even can't believe that this one had been such a big hit. Even former US-President Bill Clinton had done the dance to this song. You may ask why I'm writing about this "facts". In fact I'm charting not one but two songs which are celebrating this song within my Top 10. In Ina Regen's song this is a reference to the 1990's when I good friend of her committed suicide and as I pointed out earlier in this song she is dealing with this. In Leolixl's song a girl is dancing the "Macarena" when a boy is staring at her and laughs when she did a mistake. Later the text is about a possible relationship between the girl and boy. So you see that "Macarena" is now everywhere although the original is a song which can be found on my list for songs I don't like (or say …). Falling down fast is Wejdene with "Coco" (#9) while Bow Anderson is holding the spot with "Island" (#10).

The greatest gainer of the week is "Nobody else" (#48) by LANY after climbing up 13 spots which is now the third highest ranked song from "Mama's boy" an album I like, but not love as "Malibu nights". Four songs are debuting just outside the Top 50. The highest one is another single from LEA from her album "Treppenhaus" ("Stairway"). "Du tust es immer wieder" (#52, "You keep doing it") is another good song from this album. I should definitely give this one a chance to become a part of my album collection. The 2nd best new entry is also by a familiar German singer. After "Obsolet" (#29, "Obsolete") climbed up four spots in its 10th week on chart Madeline Juno debuts with her new one "Über dich" (#58, "Over you"). While LEA is dealing with a bad relationship in her song, Madeline Juno's is singing about the ending of such a relationship. Next debut in line is "Love of your life" (#59) by Raye. She is singing about that she could be the love of the life, but I think the lyrics can be interpreted in the direction of a relationship which could also be toxic. These songs are all dealing with the same theme, but are from a different point of view.
