Week 514 – January 2nd, 2021

The new year's chart is starting as the last week of 2020. Annalisa is reigning from the throne with her smash "Tsunami" (#1). Still in the hunt is "Lovesick girls" (#2) by Blackpink. They have been at the top for five weeks and are still trying to get up back again. After dropping from #1 to #3 in last week's edition Emma is now holding the spot with "Mascara" (#3). Up two spots and into the Top 5 is badmómzjay. Her single "Supernova" (#4) hasn't a theme I can relate to, but I really like this song. I'm not sure if this song is going up all the way to #1, but "Supernova" is definitely a very good song from an artist I normally would not listen. Also up two spots are LANY. They are celebrating their Top 5 comeback with "Heart won't let me" (#5).

Dropping down two spots is German newcomer Leolixl. Her single "Vielleicht verliebt" (#6, "Maybe in love") is still getting a lot of personal airplay, but it is now on its way out of the Top 10. New in the Top 10 is the next song. I recently bought LEA's album "Treppenhaus" ("Stairwell") and most of the songs I'm charting by her at the moment got a push in this week's chart. So "Du tust es immer wieder" ("You keep doing it") climbed up nine spots and is ready for attacking the Top 5 to become her biggest charting hit.

Also new in the Top 10 is Madeline Juno's "Über dich" (#9, "Over you"). I'm charting her since 2013 when she debuted with "Error" which was also her 1st Top 10 hit peaking at #9. Out of her debut album "The unknown" - which I bought - also "Do it again" (peak at #10), "If this was a movie" (peak at #10) and "Vertigo" (peak at #8) reached the Top 10. Her 2nd English album failed to gain my attention and eventually she left back this phase to start singing in German in 2016. And the 2nd single "Gift" ("Poison", peak at #5) from her 1st German album "DNA" reached the Top 10 in 2017. This has been her biggest hit and her last Top 10 hit until this week. Who knows maybe "Über dich" will outperform "Gift".

Caught between these new Top 10 entries are Kygo & Donna Summer with their hit "Hot stuff" (#8). This song is probably for the last time in the Top 10. Holding its spot and rounding out this week's Top 10 is "Überall" (#10, "Everywhere") by German CÉLINE.

The greatest gainer of the week is "Happy" (#45) by Pink after climbing up 27 spots in this week's edition. The Top 50 can only be a stopover for her because I believe that this song will end in the Top 20 at least. For the highest debut you have do dig a little bit deeper. It is "The 1" (#71) by Taylor Swift. Sure this single has been released in October 2020 and I'm a little late on charting this one, but hey I've charted so many songs by her over the last months that I had to make little compromises. The start isn't as good as some of her other hits in the past, but only the sky is the limit for some songs by her and so I hope that this one will do as good as her other hits from "Folklore".

Ilira and "Friendships (lost my love)" (#96) by Pascal Letoublon feat. Leony.
