Week 311 – February 11th, 2017

It’s another week with low action. The first two spots on my chart remain the same as last week. So Adele defended the top spot with “Remedy” (#1) in front of Shannon LaBrie’s “Alcohol” (#2). Behind these two there are two songs by Anouk which climbed up one and three spots. “Right on time” (#3) is now completing the podium and “Keeps getting better” (#4) is one behind. Still in the Top 5, but on its way down is Coin’s “Talk too much” (#5). Recently someone pointed out that I prefer female singer. That’s absolutely true and so it is no surprise that Coin’s “Talk too much” is the only song interpreted by a male among my Top 10.

A different sound is opening the 2nd part of my Top 10. Believe it or not “Million reasons” (#6) is Lady Gaga's biggest hit on my chart since I re-started charting back in 2011. For my part I can hardly believe it too that this song is now on its way into my Top 5. One spot behind Adele’s 2nd Top 10 hit at the moment “River Lea” (#7) can be found. “River Lea” climbed up one spot. At #8 you can find former Top 3 hit “Blush” by TP4Y. The last two spots of my Top 10 are going to Anouk. For “If I knew” (#9) it seems that the Top 10 run is ending, but “Castle in the air” (#10) finally reached this part.

For the highest new entry we’ve to look outside the Top 50. Within this part there you find the greatest gainer which is by Leslie Clio. Two of three songs by her climbed up 14 spots. These are “Million lights” (#48) and “Trying times” (#49). But back to the highest new entry. It is by a well known US band. Cold War Kids had several hits on my chart from their last album “Hold my home” which I bought. Now they are returning with the first single from their upcoming album “L.A. Divine”. “Love is mystical” (#51) is a very good choice for a single and reminds me to their biggest hits on my chart “All this could be yours” and “First”. This song should definitely bring them back in into my Top 10.

The 2nd highest debut of three official singles is by German-Polish actress and singer Natalia Avelon. I doubt that most of you know her. Back in 2007 she had her only hit with “Summer wine” which is a cover of the classic by Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood. This 2007 song had been the title track for the film “Das wilde Leben” (“The wild life”) where she portrayed Uschi Obermaier who is considered a sex symbol of the “1968 generation” and of course of the protests of 1968. The 2007 version of “Summer wine” had been a duet with Ville Valo who is the lead singer of HIM. HIM by the way had only one notable hit for me with their 2000 smash “Join me (in death)”. Let’s now move forward to 2017. Ten years after this big success with “Summer wine” Natalia Avelon is releasing her official solo debut “In another life” (#69). This song is solid, but not outstanding. At the moment I don’t see this song within my Top 20, but maybe this song will surprise me in the long run.

Other debuts are “Alles OK” (#58, “Everything OK”), “Flugangst” (#80, “Fear of flying”) and “Wien Zürich Berlin” (#81, “Vienna Zurich Berlin”) by Tagtraeumer and “Was bleibt” (#79, “What remains”) by Yvonne Catterfeld.
