Week 313 – February 25th, 2017

Last week there had been 15 new entries. This week there are 16 new entries. But there is only one queen reigning. Still my chart is all about Anouk. The week before she took over with “Right on time” (#1) and this song is leading the pack for a 2nd week in a row. “Right on time” is followed by “Keeps getting better” (#2) which is in the runner’s up position for a 2nd time. For the moment there is no quadruple by Anouk in my Top 5 because “Castles in the air” (#5) and “We are” (#6) didn’t this last step in this edition, but I believe that there is a big chance to see four Anouk songs topping my charting in the upcoming weeks.

Beside Anouk there are still different artists in my Top 10. Let’s welcome Lady Gaga for the first time in my Top 3. Her song “Million reasons” (#5) climbed up two spots to complete the podium. And still in the Top 5 is Adele with her former #1 hit “Remedy” (#4) while “River Lea” (#9) is on its way out of the Top 10. Also dropping is “Alcohol” (#7). The Shannon LaBrie song dropped three spots and I hope that “Alcohol” will stay for some more weeks within this part of my chart. So much for that. Let’s welcome some new artists in my Top 10. For the first time since October 2013 and for the first time as a solo artist British singer Ed Sheeran reached my Top 10. The last time he had been in my Top 10 he was featured on the Tayler Swift song “Everything has changed”. This week he returned with his hit “Shape of you” (#8). The other new artist is the alternative act Scavenger Hunt. Their premier Top 10 hit is “Sweet talk” (#10) which climbed up two spots.

In the last weeks I’ve mentioned Lana Del Rey a few times. I described my former #1 “Alcohol” by Shannon LaBrie as a possible hit when she’d have sung it. Now she returned after an absence of nearly two and a half year with the first single “Love” (#27) of her upcoming new album. This song reminds me to her first singles “Video games” and “Blue jeanes” which peaked at #1. But is reminding enough to get another #1 hit on my chart? It’s hard to predict, but “Love” is a very good song and it is absolutely possible that she could enter my Top 10 at least with this song.

In the fairway of this debut is a newcomer from the US. Jane XØ has released her actual single “Love me” some months ago, but if failed to enter my chart. Now she has released a bunch of remix versions and an acoustic version of this song as a single. It is this acoustic version of “Love me” (#28) which I fell in love, because it lifted the whole song to a new level. Every now and then acoustic versions can be found on my chart, but this one is very special and maybe “Love me” is a possible future Top 10 hit.

Three more songs got their debut within my Top 50. The next one debuted straight behind the greatest gainer of the week which is “Be with you always” (#33) by Mighty Oaks. The highest debut of these three songs is “Machine” (#34) by MisterWives. As I charted their debut album it is no surprise that they got a solid debut with their actual single. Then there is the German band 2Raumwohnung. There new single “Somebody lonely and me” (#37) has been released in two different remixes according with their album title “Tag und Nacht” (“Day and night”). On this album every song is included in the “Nachtversion” (“night version”) and “Tagversion” (“day version”). On my chart you can find the “Nachtversion” of this song. On the track "Somebody lonely and me" there are parts in German and English. The last but not least debut within in the Top 50 is by German newcomer Antje Schomaker with her debut single “Bis mich jemand findet” (#44, “Until someone finds me”)

The highest debut outside the Top 50 is by Leslie Clio. On Tuesday she released the first single “Darkness is a filler” (#56) of her new album “Purple”. Over the last two years Leslie Clio dominated my chart with songs as “My heart ain’t that broken” (year-end #1 in 2015) or “Damage done” (year-end #1 in 2016). Although some of the lyrics were darker on this album the sound was mostly positive and energetic. With “Darkness is a filler” Leslie Clio is establishing a complete new sound. This change is described on therevue.ca where Ben Yung wrote: “Gone is the optimism and cheerfulness of Clio’s past efforts, and in their place is a starker and more emotive approach.” Via itunes I was able to get a first listen to this album and this darker sound is drawing through the whole album. My first impression is that this album is good, but at the moment I’m not sure if I like this album as much as I love “Eureka”. On the other hand “Darkness is a filler” is growing more and more on me since the first listen when I thought “OMG, what is this! This can’t be her new single.”.

Minelli, “Meine Frau” (#96, “My wife”) – don’t be confused with the two Amanda songs, because one is from a Danish singer and this one from a German one, “How I like it” (#97) by James Maslow, “Taker her down” (#98) by Ruben Young and “Work of art” (#100) by Jamie Cullum.
