Week 349 – November 4th, 2017

The only song in my Top 10 which didn’t change the position was last week’s #1. For that Kelly Clarkson could defend her title with “Love so soft” (#1). This week she is followed by Kate Voegele with “Catch me on fire” (#2) which climbed up one spot. By next week it will be a fight between these two songs and Luke Sital-Singh’s “21st century heartbreat” (#3) which rose up two spots. All of these songs have the chances for being my #1 and it is hard to predict which one I will prefer next week. While these songs are fighting for #1 former #1 “So tied up” (#4) by Cold War Kids feat. Bishop Briggs dropped two spots. New in my Top 5 is “…Ready for it?” (#5) by Taylor Swift.

“…Ready for it?” overtake Taylor Swift’s former #1 “Look what you made me do” (#6) which dropped two spots. The Taylor Swift double pack is followed by another Luke Sital-Singh song. “We don’t belong” (#7) climbed up one. Then there is Kate Voegele. This time with “Sun will rise” (#8) which climbed up two spots. Kate Voegele, Luke Sital-Singh and Taylor Swift now have two songs in my Top 10. Is there a chance that one of the other Top 10 acts have two songs in this part of my chart by next week? Yes there is. Kelly Clarkson is in a good position with “Move on” (#18) which climbed up six spots. The last two spots of my Top 10 are going to two new songs. The first one is “Too good at goodbyes” (#9) by Sam Smith. For him this is his first Top 10 hit on my chart. The other one goes to Ed Sheeran with “Perfect” (#10) which recently reached the #1 in Austria.

The greatest gainer of the week is one of the last week’s debuts. Selena Gomez’s album track “Perfect” (#40) sprinted up 14 spots which is good, but I’ve seen songs which did better. Nevertheless “Perfect” and “Cologne (#45) are among my favourite tunes of her album “Revival” so there is a big opportunity to see these songs in my Top 10 in the future. Enough speculation let’s go to this week’s new entries. The highest one is by Austrian indie rock band Wanda. Do you remember them? I bet most of you don’t remember that they reached #5 on my chart with “Bussi Baby” (“Kiss baby”) back in 2015. Now they return with “Columbo” (#46) which recently reached #1 in Austria. When I first listened to this song I didn’t really gave it a chance, but now I think that this song is rather good. The future will show where the journey is ending, but for now I think that it will be a good trip for this particular song.

Austrian “Columbo” is followed by the new one by MisterWives. Last week they released the catchy non-album single “Never give up on me” (#47). This song should have been definitely on their recent album “Conncet the dots”, but as I like their songs this one is no exception whether it is on their album or not. I hope that this song is doing well. The next debut is “Fake happy” (#48) by Paramore. This one is a single from their last album “After laughter”. Last week I finally bought this album, which is now my third from them, so it was no surprise for me that “Fake happy” is now the third charting song from this album. Earlier this year “Hard times” reached my Top 10 and “Told you so” my Top 20. As these mentioned songs “Fake happy” could have a good time on my chart.

I should mention two more debuts which have done well this week. By midweek country singer Cam released the first single of her sophomore album. This single is called “Diane” (#58) and is a reminiscence to Dolly Partons “Jolene”. The theme of the song is similar, but the perspective is the other way round. While Dolly Parton is singing about a woman who is confronting a woman who she believes has an affair with her lover Cam is singing about a woman who is realising that she has an affair with a married man. It is a nice song, but only the time will show if “Diane” will be a classic song as “Jolene” is. The other song to mention is “Fetish” (#61) by Selena Gomez feat. Gucci Mane. “Fetish” finally got its chance on my chart since I just charting the last songs from her album “Revival”. This song is not bad, but not as good as the most songs from this album.

Other debuts are “No reason to run” (#74), “Invincible” (#75) and “Open up the heavens” (#76) by Cold War Kids, “Whatever it takes” (#88) by Imagine Dragons, “Bad liar” (#89) by Selena Gomez, “Say it to my face” (#90) by Maty Noyes, “Magnetic” (#93) by Chlöe Howl, “Right girl wrong time” (#97) by Jon Langston and “You’re somebody else” (#99) by Flora Cash.
