Week 490 – July 18th, 2020

Every now and then there is a self-replacement at the top of the chart. This week Emma replaced “Luci blu” (#2, “Blue lights”) with her album cut “Quando l’amore finisce” (#1, “When love ends”). Directly behind this double leading pack is “Alibi” (#3) also by Emma. Three songs in the Top 3 by one artist is definitely a rare thing and although Emma had several #1 hits before this is the first time she replaced herself at the top spot and that she placed three songs in the Top 3. The only other artist who had three Top 3 hits at once and multiple #1’s replacing themselves is Anouk. And speaking of Anouk leads me to her former #1 “I love you” (#4) which dropped one spot in this week’s edition. Next in line is “Übermorgen” (#5, “The day after tomorrow”) by Mark Forster.

Up one spot and knocking at the door to the Top 5 is “Ein letztes Mal” (#6, “One last time”) by Elif. Directly behind is Norwegian singer Dagny with her super catchy “Somebody” (#7). Also up is Winona Oak with Robin Schulz and their single “Oxygen” (#8). These are all songs by artists which hadn’t a lot of big hits on my chart before. Quite the opposite is Kelly Clarkson. She had several #1’s over the years, but “I dare you” (#9) only peaked at #5 and this week this song dropped three spots. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with a new song in this part of the chart. For the first time in history former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher placed a song in the Top 10. The song itself is a rare song from the Oasis debut album especially a bonus track from the Japanese edition. He released “Sad song” (#10) as a regular single to promote his “MTV Unplugged”-album. I really love this song and it definitely reminds me of my favourite Oasis song “Wonderwall”.

Speaking of Liam Gallagher I’ve to mention that his other single from his “MTV Unplugged” session “Gone” (#52) is the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 19 spots. The highest debut is by German schlager singer Vanessa Mai and Spanish band Lérica. Their song “Du bist mein Highlight (No puedo estar sin ti)” (#66, “You’re my highlight (I can’t be without you)”) has the summer vibe and I absolutely believe that this song will end in the Top 20. The only time before when Vanessa Mai had been within the Top 20 had been with “Niemals” (“No way”) which peaked at #15 back in 2019.

Other debuts are “Biting my tongue” (#67) by The Veronicas, “Zefix” (#76, “Oh shit”) by Chris Steger, “Past life” (#78) by Trevor Daniel & Selena Gomez, “Husavik” (#79) by Will Ferrell & My Marianne, “Know myself” (#80) by Moss feat. Krystof, “Slow grenade” (#81) by Ellie Goulding feat. Lauv, “One step closer” (#81) by Felicia Lu, “Queen of broken hearts” (#93) by Blackbear, “In the mirror” (#94) by Demi Lovato, “Don’t cry for me” (#95) by Alok & Martin Jensen & Jason Derulo, “Double trouble” (#96) by Will Ferrell & My Marianne and “New life” (#98) by James Cottriall.
