Week 566 – January 1st, 2022

The chart year opens with the exact same #1 as the year 2021 ended. Austrian singer Esther Graf is holding the top spot with "Red flags" (#1) and with the entry of her latest single "Tschau tschau" (#10, "Bye bye") she now has two songs in this part of the chart. Once more "Red flags" is followed by LEA's & LUNA's song "Küsse wie Gift" (#2, "Kisses like poison"). The only new song at the podium is "Overpass graffiti" (#3) by Ed Sheeran. A follow-up #1 is definitely in reach. On the other there is big concurrence with several songs. On I've mentioned with "Küsse wie Gift". Also in striking distance is "Bite me" (#4) by Avril Lavigne. You should also not forget "Raindrops" (#5) by Katja Krasavice & Leony. It is hard to predict which one could dethrone "Red flags" mostly because there are some more candidates in the lower part of the Top 10.

Dropping two spots is former long-time #1 "Shivers" (#6) by Ed Sheeran. Four spots down is "Parfum" (#7) by LEA. Two weeks ago this song had been at #2 and I've to point out that I didn't saw this drop coming. These former #1's are followed by Taylor Swift's country pop "I bet you think about me" (#8) with Chris Stapleton. Although this song didn't move my country #1 is on its way into the Top 5. Next in line is "Oh my god" (#9) by Adele.

"When you're drunk" (#17) by LANY had been last week's greatest gainer. This week another song with a drinking theme is the greatest gainer. It is "I quit drinking" (#41) by Kelsea Ballerini & LANY. Sure I could have charted this song earlier, but I recently bought LANY's new album "gg xx bb (Deluxe)". Unfortunately this album got mixed to negative reviews, but I personally like this album. So over the next months you can expect some more entries from this album.

I've been really late on some songs in 2021 and so the 1st chart of 2022 see some of these late debuts. The highest debut is by Cassadee Pope with "Say it first" (#83). It isn't the best debut in general, but it is the best for this particular week. Other debuts are "Never wanted to be that girl" (#85) by Carly Pearce & Ashley McBryde, "Invisible string" (#88) and "Illicit affairs" (#89) by Taylor Swift, "Breakup szn" (#93) by Gracie Carol, "Before I met you" (#94) by Kaylee Bell feat. The McClymonts, "So called life" (#95) by Three Days Grace and "Wannabe" (#98) by Baby Queen. Unfortunately I've to excuse me for linking the wrong flag for Baby Queen. She is definitely not from the USA or nor from Great Britain where she is currently leaving. With this week I correct the flag to her home country South Africa.
