Week 743– May 24th, 2025

Now it’s getting unreal. Nina Chuba is still topping the chart with her smash “Unsicher” (#1, “Insecure”) for now seven weeks. Over the span of 14 years only four songs did better. “Receive” by Alanis Morissette spent 10 weeks at the Top in 2012 (eight weeks) and later in 2013 for two more weeks. Nine consecutive weeks at the top had “L’amore non mi basta” (“Love isn’t enough”) by Emma back in 2013/14 which also had been the year-end #1 in 2014. Then there is Anouk with her hit song “If I knew” which spent eight weeks at the top in 2016. The last one which did better had been “Nie wieder sehen” (“Never see again”) by German rap singer JuJu back in 2022. It’s definitely rare on my chart to see songs lasting so long at the spot.

In the waiting are “Hab ich dir je gesagt…“ (#2, “Have I ever told you…”) by Madeline Juno whose last of three #1’s had been “Versprich mir du gehst” (“Promise me you’ll go”) early in 2024. This week it swapped the spot with “Starcorssed” (#3) by Kings Elliot. Holding its spot in the Top 5 are “Undressed” (#4) by Sombr and “Heut’ ist alles gut” (#5, “Today everything is okay”) by Sarah Conner.

Next in lien is “Twilight zone” (#6) by Ariana Grande which moved up two spots. Down on is “Someone else” (#7) by Felicia Lu who recently released another single which can be expected to debut next week. The next three songs are new in the Top 10. The highest Top 10 debut had “Hals über Kopf” (#8, “Head over heels”) by Jacob Elias. Returning to the Top 10 for the first time in a while is Anouk with her recent single “Where the mind goes” (#9). Last but not least, Miley Cyrus also returns to this part. This week she is in with “End of the world” (#10). Unfortunately I don’t like her other two singles from her upcoming new album “Something beautiful” which is a little disappointing as I really like her previous album “Endless summer vacation”.

This week the award for the greatest gainer goes to Anouk’s “Old broken ride” (#38) which only climbed up 11 spots. Two spots above you can find this week’s highest debut, which is definitely a surprise. It is “Bad bunnies” (#36) by German singer Zsá Zsá. She is the rising female star in the German rap scene beside Ikkimel. You all know that this is not my kind of music. On the other hand Zsá Zsá has an infecting sound for Tik Toc. Back in 2024 she changed her style and now she is getting attention. I don’t like her output, but I’ve to admit that this styling change is surely working for her career. With “Bad Bunnies” she got my attention. The text itself contains a lot of numerating (back in the late 1990’s German hip hop band Die Fantastischen Vier did something similar with “MFG” which I really like) – also in the sexual context which is now a bigger thing in German female rap as it had been a long with the prime by Katja Krasavice. This fact isn’t as prominent as in the songs by Ikkimel. You get the point because they get criticism. Zsá Zsá is also criticized for one particular line in this song when she finds a little bit threatening by the boy friend is hot. You can find this inappropriate, but in my eyes it’s only a continuation by the literature which is quite popular in these days – here I mean “Bad romance” and “New adult” which has partly the same problems. I’m not the expert for this kind of explicit music or literature and mostly isn’t not my kind of music whether it is by male or female artists. If you like to deep dive into this music phenomenon in Germany you should give Matilda on YouTube a chance. I absolutely love her analysis for this kind of music.

Other debuts are “Messy” (#53) by ROSÉ, “Therapie” (#54, “Therapy”) by ok.danke.tschüss, “Last girls at the party” (#95) by The Beaches, “Maman” (#96, “Mom”) by Louane and “Bara bada bastu” (#100, “Just sauna”) by KAJ.
