Week 494 – August 15th, 2020

For a third week in a row things are cooling down at the top of my chart. The first thing I can point out is that Liam Gallagher is holding the #1 with “Sad songs” (#1) for now three weeks. Not bad for a singer who hadn’t a single #1 before. The following three spots are still occupied by Italian singer Emma in exact the same order for now three weeks. So “Quando l’amore finisce” (#2, “When love ends”) finishes at the runner’s up spot followed by “Alibi” (#3) and former #1 “Luci blu” (#4, “Blue lights”). Climbing up or down is overestimated in this part of the chart and so “I love you” (#5) by Anouk is continuing this trend.

And last but not least Dagny’s “Somebody” (#6) is part of this snail race or should I write the first one who is making a move is out. Therefore all went well for Dagny because her single is the 6th song neither climbing up nor slipping down. The first song which is breaking the standstill agreement is “This love isn’t crazy” (#7) by Carly Rae Jepsen. “This love isn’t crazy” climbed up two spots. Also up two spots is “Crowded room” (#8) by Selena Gomez feat. 6lack. Finally there is fresh blood in the Top 10 too. For the first time in the Top 10 is Daryl Braithwaite with “Love songs” (#9). Back in this part are LANY with their emotional “If this is the last time” (#10).

Swedish singer LÉON had several hits since her debut back in 2015 with “Tired of talking” (peaked at #83 in 2017). Two Top 10 hits later the 2nd single from her upcoming sophomore album “And it breaks my heart” (#28) is awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. I really like this song and it should do better in the next weeks although I’ve to point out that the album’s 3rd single “Chasing a feeling” is also on its way to chart. Somehow artists are releasing new single in a shorter time periode than usual in this year. So Taylor Swift is no exception. Her new album “Folklore” has been a big surprise and within weeks there are three official singles out of this album. “Cardigan” (#19) reached the Top 20 in its 3rd week after its release. This week the other two singles got their debut. “Exile” (#56) with Bon Iver is the higher ranked one. The other one is the country folk rock song “Betty” (#57). Both failed to enter the Top 50, but I expect them both in this part by next week.
