Week 492 – August 1st, 2020

And this week’s winner in the run for the top spot of the week is … Liam Gallagher. His single “Sad song” (#1) climbed up four spots and reached the summit. So this song prevented Emma for reaching a 4th consecutive week at the top. All of her songs dropped one spot in this week’s edition. Last week’s #1 “Quando l’amore finisce” (“When love ends”) finished at #2, “Alibi” (#3) failed to do the last step and “Luci blu” (#4, “Blue lights”) dropped out of the podium. Emma is still dominating the chart, but this week without being at #1. Rounding out this week’s Top 5 is former #1 “I love you” (#5) by Anouk.

Dagny is still doing well. Her song “Somebody” (#6) climbed up one spot and is in the front of the Top 5. Maybe next week this song will enter. Directly behind is “Übermorgen” (#7, “The day after tomorrow”) by Mark Forster. His 2nd Top 10 hit in a row is constantly losing ground to the top songs, but I still think that this one is one of his best songs. Next in line is the first Top 10 hit for Winona Oak. Her song “Oxygen” (#8) with Robin Schulz is doing way better than her new single with Dutch DJ R3HAB which debuts this week. Climbing up is Kygo. Sure most of you believe that “What’s love got to do with it” reached the Top 10, but no this song only reached the Top 40 with a peak at #33 for now. I’m speaking of “Lose somebody” (#9) with OneRepublic which is doing pretty good. New in the Top 10 is “7 Stunden” (#10, “7 hours”) by LEA & Capital Bra. For Capital Bra is this his Top 10 debut although he is the most successful artist in Germany and Austria – when you only count #1 songs. So he had 19 #1 singles (13 of these within a year) in Germany and 15 #1’s in Austria since his debut in 2016. I don’t know why the youngsters are all into his German rap songs, but hey who am I to judge. At the moment only Switzerland can resist because of the fact he only had 6 #1’s there.

For the greatest gainer of the week I’ve not to look over the borders when good songs are also coming from my home country. This week the award goes to Edmond with their song “Auf amoi” (#31, “At once”) which climbed up 20 spots in its 2nd week on chart. So let’s see which song is this week’s top debut. Of course it is by Taylor Swift who just released a new album. Her single “Cardigan” (#43) is doing well although it only debuted outside the Top 40. With her new album she is continuing her trend to Indie Pop produced by Anton Dessner who is part of The National. As I’m not really a fan of The National I’m still torn whether I love her new work or not. Sure there are great songs on “Lover” and “Folklore”, but when you look over my chart you may have noticed that this is definitely not the majority kind of songs I’m charting. For now I believe this album will also provide hits for me, but for the future this could definitely change.

Anne-Marie – the solo version peaked at #89 earlier this year –, “Simle for the camera” (#94) by UPSAHL, “La curiosidad” (#99, “Curiosity”) by Jay Wheeler feat. Myke Towers and “Más más más” (#100, “More more more”) by Rolf Sanchez.
