Week 679 – March 2nd, 2024

Jennie is hunting the record for topping the chart by a KPOP song. Her song “You & me” (#1) is now topping the chart for four weeks and she only needs two more weeks to equalize “Lovesick girls” by her band Blackpink. “Euforia” (#2, “Euphoria”) by Annalisa is still behind. New at the podium is “ ‘til I don’t” (#3) by LANY. Her I’m sure that this song won’t reach the top, but the next song in the row is different. It is “Are you done running” (#4) by Anouk. When I first listened to this one it was not really my cup of tea. Now I’m really into it. On the other hand, there is one big song behind which has a clearer sign to reach the #1. Dropping two spots is former Top 3 hit “Disco Paradise” (#5) by Fedez, Annalisa & Articolo 31.

Climbing up 20 spots and being awarded with the greatest gainer of the week for a 2nd time (not in a row) is “Killer” (#6) by FKA twigs. This song had been released as a regular single back in 2022. Now, nearly two years later, this song is climbing up the chart very fast and I’m playing this one on repeat. It’s only a matter of time when this song will reach the top spot of my chart. For me “Killer” is the clearest decision for replacing “You & me” at the top. Can’t tell you all how this song is taking me by storm since I first listened to it. Dropping out of the Top 5 is “Lighthouse” (#6) by Kelly Clarkson. Also down two spots is “My love” (#7) by Leigh-Anne feat. Ayra Starr. The rest of the Top 10 are new songs in this part of the chart. The higher ranked one is “Everytime we touch” (#9). This is the cover by Indonesian singer Shania Yan. The other one is the Top 10 comeback song “Ein halbes Leben” (#10, “A half life”) by Austrian singer Christina Stürmer.

As I’ve written about the greatest gainer of the week above it is instantly time the to go to the highest debut. This week it is “Shape of me” (#42) by Rita Ora. This song had been released at the end of January as a single with a feature by Keith Urban. I personally prefer the original version without him. This one could end in the Top 10. The 2nd best debut just landed outside the Top 50. It is “Catching feelings” (#57) by Walk Off The Earth. The are producing constantly hits since I first noticed them after releasing the cover “Somebody I used to know”. Now they are back and they should do well.

Other debuts are “Therapie” (#66, “Therapy”) by Wanda, “Can I jump?” (#77) and “Face the crowd” (#90) all by Freya Ridings – I recently bought her album “Blood orange” –, “Back for more” (#81) by TOMORROW X TOGETHER & Anitta, “Totes Herz” (#84, “Dead heart”), “Lieb mich” (#85, “Love me”) by Ayliva, “Head up” (#87) by Cheat Codes feat. Birdy, “Neve be lonely” (#88) by Jax Jones & Zoe Wees, “Sunglasses at night” (#91) by Heidi Klum, “Siehst du das genau so?” (#92, “Do you see it the same way?”) by Jan Delay, “In the mood” (#95) by Whee In, “AB” (#97, “Answering machine”) by NAVU and “Honey or spice” (#98) by LIGHTSUM.
