Week 147 – December 21st, 2013

This year’s Christmas edition is won by Italian singer Emma. Last week she grabbed #1 with “L’amore non mi basta” and this week she didn’t let the position out. So Finnish act Satin Circus is only in the runner’s up position with their beautiful song “If you love me”. This week the whole Top 4 didn’t change so Satin Circus is followed by Ben Montague’s “Love like stars” and Emma’s “Dimentico tutto”. In the meanwhile Lily Allen continued her trend moving up the chart with “Hard out here” (#5). This week only one song entered the Top 10. “Do what U want” (#8) by Lady Gaga feat. R. Kelly replaced Jessie J with “It’s my party”. For both this is their first Top 10 hit.

In the next part of my chart some songs are continuing their strong performance. “The monster” (#13) by Eminem feat. Rihanna, “Unconditionally” (#14) by Katy Perry or “Last bus out” by Jillette Johnson are a few of these songs which have a good chance to reach the Top 10 in the next week. A debut can’t be found in this section, but there are some notable gainers this week. Three of these big movers debuted last week. Let’s start with US-star Britney Spears. I had a lot of problems with her singles over the last years, but with her latest single “Perfume” (#48) she is going to change this. In my first chart area she had several Top 10 hits, but until 2011 she only had two charting hits. “Perfume” climbed up 43 spots and is the greatest gainer of the week.

Not far behind is the Duran Duran cover by unknown British singer Rhiannon Mair. “Strangelove” (#55) climbed up 37 spots and missed the Top 50 by only a handful spots. This cover is one of the covers which should gain major attention in my opinion. By next week Rhiannon Mair should reach the Top 50 at least. And there is a third song which climbed up more than 30 spots this week. “Human” (#53), the latest single by Christina Perri, also climbed up 37 spots like “Strangelove”. “Human” could be Christina Perri’s biggest hit if she outperforms “Jar of hearts” (peak #7) which reached Top 10 back in 2012.

The highest new entry comes from a Chinese-Korean girl group. miss A had released several singles since 2010 which all reached Top 10 in South Korea. “Hush” (#68) is their first single reaching my chart. And there is a chance that this song is joining the group of K-Pop songs in my Top 40. The next best debut comes from Colbie Caillat. Beside her debut album “Coco” she hadn’t performed very well for me. Her biggest hit up-to-date since my re-start had been “Brighter than the sun” (peaked #49). This week she debuts with “Hold on” (#74) which should easily reach the Top 50 and then we will see what the future brings for her.

Other debuts are “Impossible” (#75) by Ryan Star, “Bands deiner Jugend” (#77, “Bands of your youth” an album track) by Revolverheld, “Immer in Bewegung” (#90, “Always on the move”) by Revolerheld, “Catch me if you can” (#91) by Walking On Cars, “3000 miles” (#92) by Emblem3, “What if?” (#94) by Vita Chambers, “As it seems” (#95) by Lily Kershaw, “Sorry” (#96) by Shin Seung Hun, “Confused” (#97) by AOA and “I should’ve followed you home” (#98) by Agnetha Fältskog & Gary Barlow.
