Week 505 – October 31st, 2020

The last charting week for October brings the biggest surprise at #1 in a while. Since 2011 only three times songs reached #1 from outside the Top 10. The first one had been “Second chance” by Peter, Bjorn & John with a climb from #16 to #1. The 2nd one had been “Run run run” by Swiss-Slovakian singer Celeste Buckingham. This one and “Higher love” by Kygo & Whitney Houston sprinted to #1 from #19. “Higher love” did this big climb back in 2019. This week the new #1 climbed up 16 spots. So if you’re familiar with last week’s edition you know that the new #1 is a K-Pop song. Therefore “Lovesick girls” (#1) by Blackpink is the first #1 out of this genre on my chart. As I’m not so deep into this genre this is definitely a sensation, but as Blackpink is one of the biggest female acts in K-Pop and I’ve charted most of their singles it was only a matter of time when they reach their first Top 10 spot. Surely the went all the way to #1, but I really love this catchy track.

Dropping down one spot is former #1 “Midnight sky” (#2) by Miley Cyrus. This one is followed by “Betty” (#3) by Taylor Swift which is now the highest ranked song from her. Her other Top 10 hits are still “Miss Americana & the heartbreak prince” (#4), “Cardigan” (#7) and “Exile” (#10) with Bon Iver. This leaves four spots open. Kesha’s new one “Little bit of love” (#5) is holding its spot while “Coco” (#8) by French sensation Wejdene climbed up two spots. Up one spot is the new Kygo remix. So you can find “Hot stuff” with Donna Summer at #8. And last but not least to mention is former #1 “Sad song” (#9) by Liam Gallagher.

The greatest gainer award goes this week to German singer Leolixl. She first rose to fame via Tik Tok, but with her single “Vielleicht verliebt” (#26, “Maybe in love”) she climbed up 26 spots. The highest debut is “Feels like love” (#66) by Noah Schnacky. “Feels like love” is an interesting country pop single which I personally would say is more pop than country, but who am I to say that. This debut is followed by Kane Brown feat. Nelly with their single “Cool again” (#69) which is another country pop single. And also the third highest debut is out of this genre. It is “Heaven down here” (#70) by Mickey Guyton from her EP “Bridges”.

Other debuts are “Heart won’t let me” (#75) by LANY, “I’m not mad” (#81) by Halsey, “Skandal im Sperrbezirk” (#82, “Scandal in the prohibited area“) by Eisbrecher, “When we were kids” (#88), “The beat” (#89) and “Wither on the vine” (#90) all by Matt Gresham, “Share that love” (#92) by Lukas Graham feat. G-Eazy, “It’s OK if you forget me” (#93) by Astrid S, “Settling down” (#96) by Miranda Lambert, “Same star” (#98) by Thierry Von Der Warth & Jordan Jade, “WZF?!” (#99, “What the f*ck?!”) by Das Lumpenpack and “Good thing” (#100) by Neilya.
