Week 520 – February 13th, 2021

Another week in music leads to a new #1. For a 2nd time German singer LEA is reaching the top spot. Her single "Schwarz" (#1, "Black") is taking over in its 10th week on chart. It is nice to see this song that high while her former #1 "Du tust es immer wieder" (#5, "You keep doing it") dropped two spots. Up two spots and new at the runner's up spot is "Willow" (#2) by Taylor Swift's "evermore"-album. This is definitely a good choice for a Top 3 song. Unfortunately I'm not sure if this song will ever reach the #1 because I really like "Allein" (#4) by Gestört Aber GeiL feat. Tina Naderer. This song climbed up one spot is now directly behind the Top 3. Still in the Top 3, but dropping two spots is last week's #1 "Über dich" (#3, "Over you") by Madeline Juno. She has released the next single "Lass mich los" ("Let me go") with the video set to premiere today. Maybe this song will debut soon. At the moment I don't know because I hadn't time to listen to this song. Hopefully it will do as well as "Über dich".

P!nk failed to enter the Top 5 with her song "Happy" (#6). This song is among the older ones in the Top 10 and I'm unsecure if this song will enter the Top 5 in the next weeks. Directly behind and climbing up two spots is "Coping" (#7) by newcomer Rosie Darling. This song and the next are definitely worth listening if you don't have listened to it now. The other song I'm talking about is "Knocking at my heart" (#8) by Frawley. For her this is also her Top 10 debut after climbing up four spots. The 2nd new song in the Top 10 is "The 1" (#9) by Taylor Swift. And last but not least there is a 3rd new song in this part of the chart which is rounding out the Top 10. It is the return by Cold War Kids with their EP cut and promotional single "Beyond the pale" (#10). This particular song climbed up 12 spots.

Over the last weeks most of the songs debuted in the bottom third of the chart and the Top 20 has grown old. With this week the picture changed and there are more songs competing for a spot in the Top 10 than there are available spots. Among the competitors are core artists as Kate Voegele with "This is home" (#14) and once more Taylor Swift with "No body, no crime" (#15) – on this track US band Haim is featured. And there are also two more newcomers which are fighting for their 1st Top 10 hit. First to mention is Olivia Dean with "OK love you bye" (#16). This late 2019 single straight shot into my heart when I first listened to it earlier this year. I discovered this song via a music review by "FAZ" journalists who described their 2020 music year. This is really an unusual way to discover new music for me in these days as most of the songs are discovered via the official charts (more or less), Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, YouTube and surely by all the charts are counting for the "Globalchart Top 100" (Thank you all for posting your charts!). The other one is "Drivers license" (#17) by Olivia Rodrigo. This song is growing more and more after I didn't liked the song when I first listened to it.

The greatest gainer of the week is "Pezzo di cuore" (#53, "Piece of heart"). This song is by my favourite Italian singer Emma and Alessandra Amoroso and climbed up 19 spots. This brings me straight to this week's debuts. The highest one has been released as a regular single last year in summer and now I discovered "Back at wrong" (#84) by Lola Lennox. It isn't the best debut, but it is a start. I'm not sure if the songs debuting in this week's edition will leave a big footprint, but the other ones are "Dicked down in Dallas" (#92) by Trey Lewis, "I love you too" (#93) by Matt Stell, "Nobody" (#94) by Dylan Scott, "Without your love" (#95) by APRE and "17" (#95) by Kwamie Lie.
