| #51 | Tyler Shaw – Wicked Points: 1120.9 Peak: #9 Weeks: 19 Album: Yesterday Looking over various charts you sometimes find pearls. One of these pearls is “Wicked” by Canadian singer Tyler Shaw. In his home country he had some minor hits which except “Kiss goodnight” never found their way on my chart. I was interested in this song with the first listen “although” it is sung by a male interpret which are hardly be found on my chart. In May “Wicked” reached my Top 10 and peaked at #9. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Julian Le Play – Du schmeckst nach SommerPoints: 1124.2 Peak: #7 Weeks: 19 Album: Zugvögel Austrian radio host and singer Julian Heidrich – a former candidate from the Austrian casting show “Helden von Morgen” – placed his first single in my year-end Top 100. “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (“You taste after summer”) is a good addition to the summer (with summer in the song title) songs I charted this year. For him “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” is his first Top 10 hit and maybe he has some more songs as this one. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
38 | #116 | Stellar – Crying Points: 1130.2 Peak: #10 Weeks: 20 Album: Cry I can’t emphasize often enough that 2016 marked a return of K-Pop songs on my chart. Some of these songs reached my Top 10. The first of these Top 10 hits found in this list is from the girl band Stellar. They started their carrier in the same year I relaunched my chart, but until 2016 the failed to impress me. “Crying” is a good and danceable song which has a lot of the EDM songs which are big in these days. This songs spent three weeks at #10 in September.

| Cam – Mayday Points: 1170.5 Peak: #8 Weeks: 23 Album: Untamed At #37 you can find another song by country star Cam. Back in 2015 she had her breakthrough with her monster hit “Burning house”. The follow up to this single had been “Mayday” which I personally prefere. Outside the country scene in the USA and in Canada this song hadn’t success. On my chart it reached the Top 10 in April. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Nicole Cross – Awesome Points: 1203.7 Peak: #6 Weeks: 16 Album: - Nicole Kandziora is hard to pronounce. So she changed her stage name into Nicole Cross. She is know for her cover songs (especially the cover of “Hello”) and her duets with Lena who had a year-end Top 10 hit last year with “Traffic lights”. Her first solo single has been “Awesome”. The refrain is absolutely catchy and you can compare it with the lego movie song. A month after its chart debut “Awesome” reached its peak in my Top 10. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
35 | #76 #51 #50 #14 #25 #12 #63 #66 | Alessia Cara – Wild things Points: 1219.3 Peak: #5 Weeks: 20 Album: Know-It-All This is the 2nd entry by Candian singer Alessia Cara. Only at the second listen I decided to chart this song. In October 2015 it had been released as a promotional single, but it lasted until February – when it was released as a regular single – when I payed more attention to this song which is another song of celebrating the youth. Beside Korbee’s “Hey child” this is the 2nd song with this theme in my Top 100 of 2016. “Wild things” reached its peak in April.
34 | #46 #58 #35 #132 #40 | Taylor Swift – New romantics Points: 1264.1 Peak: #2 Weeks: 22 Album: 1989 During the writing of this review I often thought where is the first song by Taylor Swift in this countdown? And now I can answer my question. Here at #34 is the one and only song by her which can be found in this countdown. All of her other songs from “1989” can be found in the 2014 and 2015 review. “New romantics” charted earlier this year and reached #2 in February. Only her chart debut in 2015 prevented this song to do better in this ranking.

| Sara Hartman – Monster lead me home Points: 1272.9 Peak: #3 Weeks: 21 Album: Satellite EP Singer/Songwriter Sara Hartman moved to Berlin in 2015 and released her 1st single “Monster lead me home”. The song is about the idea to put ourselves outside the comfort zone. She wrote this song when she moved from Sag Harbor to Berlin and explains that this song is a snapshot of her mind when she first got to Berlin. I like this song so much that it peaked at #3 in February. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
32 | #22 #52 #48 #49 #65 | / Jay Sean feat. Sean Paul – Make my love go Points: 1307.3 Peak: #5 Weeks: 22 Album: - This song samples the 1990’s classic “Close to you” by Maxi Priest. It is a nice dance song from Jay Sean and Sean Paul. For both it had been the first Top 10 hit on my chart while for Sean Paul a 2nd one is following. “Make my love go” reached its peak in March.
31 | #5 | Hyuna – How’s this Points: 1324.9 Peak: #4 Weeks: 20 Album: A’wesome Hyuna was a member of the girl band 4minute which disbanded in 2016. Over the years she had released several solo singles including her single “Red” which was a Top 20 hit in 2014 and peaked at #85 in my year-end review of that year. Since this year she is the first K-Pop artist who had a Top 10 debut on my chart. “How’s this” is a club banger which debuted straight at #4 (where this song peaked). A good debut, but only the third highest in this week. Lyrically you can compare this song with the 2010 smash “Higher” by Taio Cruz and Kylie Minogue. |
