Week 309 – January 28th, 2017

At the end of 2011 Lana Del Rey took over my chart with her first big hit “Video games”. In these days she had several hits including her other #1 “Blue Jeans”. Since 2012 she can hardly be found on my chart. Let’s move forward to 2017. Shannon LaBrie defeated the #1 spot for a first time with a similar sound as Lana Del Rey. Personally I believe that “Alcohol” (#1) could have been a big hit for Lana Del Rey, but so “Alcohol” is an overseen perl. “Alcohol” is followed “Talk too much” (#2). Coin isn’t giving up, but it will be hard for them to stay in my Top 2. New among my Top 3 is the girl band TP4Y from the Netherlands. Their catchy smash climbed up three spots in its 9th week on chart. The next song is another new addition to my Top 5. Adele rose four spots with “Remedy” (#4) which is ready for take over by next week. And then there is the first of four songs by Anouk in my Top 10. “If I knew” (#5) withstands the pressure and dropped only one spot.

Not any longer in my Top 5 are two former #1’s. First to mention is “Nostalgic” (#6) by Kelly Clarkson. And the other one is “Not a lovesong” (#7) by Anouk. Anouk placed two more songs into my Top 10. The biggest smash of these new songs is now “Right on time” (#8) which surpassed “Keeps getting better” (#9). The Top 10 is closed by a sixth song from the Netherlands in this week’s Top 10. “Somebody else’s lover” (#10) by Juliette Claire dropped three spots.

Two more songs by Anouk are knocking at the door to my Top 10. “Castles in the air” (#13) and “We are” (#14) just missed this apart as Adele’s “River Lea” (#11). Also in a good position for a next week’s Top 10 spot is Lady Gaga’s “Million reasons” (#15). This song is so different to her previous chart hits, but it is growing more and more on me and so I hope that “Million reasons” will enter the Top 10. Not far behind these mentioned songs are “On your side” (#22) by The Veronicas, “Sweet talk” (#23) by Scavenger Hunt and “Shape of you” (#30) by Ed Sheeran. In my eyes it will cost them some more weeks to reach my Top 10 or the Top 15 at least, but in the end these songs are absolutely worth to reach this part of my chart.

Right behind the greatest gainer of the week – which is “Shape of you” by Ed Sheeran – the highest debut can be found. It is from a new band from Ireland. Little Hours released their 2nd official single back in December. Last week they finally released their video when I discovered this beautiful song. During the winter ballads have a little bit more influence on me than in other parts of the year and so this is the right time for charting “Water” (#31). We will see where the chart journey is ending, but I believe that this could be a Top 10 hit and a rare song by male interprets which is reaching such a spot.

Electronic pop by US band XYLØ has been found on my chart since last year. “Fool’s paradise” had been the bands biggest hit for me up-to-date. This week they return with their latest single “Get closer” (#39). “Get closer” is a nice song and should outperform “Fool’s paradise” (peak at #37) by next week. After this will happen a rise into my Top 20 is sure and maybe they could get their first Top 10 hit with this. As always don’t take my predicts as guaranteed, because in the past I was very often wrong with this forecasts.
