Week 100 – January 26th, 2013

The 100th edition of my chart brings a new #1. Or should I say an old #1? Climbing up the chart again is Alanis Morissette. In 2012 “Receive” spent eight weeks at the top. After a break of four weeks my favourite song at the moment reached the #1 spot again. “Raver” by The Storm dropped down to the runner’s up position after only one week at the top. Taylor Swift completes the podium with her latest smash hit “I knew you were trouble.”. Generally the Top 10 saw position changes. No new song reached this part.

Outside the Top 10 Olly Murs feat. Flo Rida are trying to take this last step with “Troublemaker” (#11). Not far behind is Matt Cardle. The title track of his first album “Letters” (#12) is continuing the good performance by climbing up 5 spots. And 77 Bombay Street’s next Top 10 hit with “Angel” (#13) is in range. Jukebox The Ghost had a massive leap this week. Climbing up 39 spots with “Don’t let me fall behind” (#38) brings them the award of the greatest gainer of week. But this band hasn’t been the only group sprinting up the chart. The other band had been Three Days Grace. Their new single “The high road” (#43) climbed up 33 spots.

The highest new entry can be found outside my Top 50. Welsh band Stereophonics released their second single from their new album “Graffiti on the train”. “Indian summer” (#52) debuted not far behind the Top 50 where it could be next week. Between the 14 new entries there are some interesting songs or artist. Let’s start with Train. After reaching the Top 20 with “Drive by” last year, they are trying to reach this again with their new single. I’m charting their new single “Bruises” (#66) with US country singer Ashley Monroe. Then you will find the new single by The Goo Goo Dolls. “Rebel beat” (#79) brings them back after break of one year where “All that you are” reached Top 10. A low start have One Direction with “Kiss you” (#78) and Carly Rae Jepsen with “Tonight I’m getting over you” (#86). While One Direction is still fighting for the band’s first Top 10 hit, Carly Rae Jepsen will continue her good run.

Then there is Aerosmith feat. Carrie Underwood. Their duet starts its chart run in the last section of my chart, but “Can’t stop loving you” (#94) could go up next week. And not to forget about German schlager star Matthias Reim. Normally this isn’t the kind of music I’m listening too, but with “Einsamer Stern” (Lone star, #93) he could have been his first hit since years. With his debut single back in the 1990s “Verdammt, ich lieb’ dich” (Damn, I love you) he had the biggest hit of the 1990s in Germany and Austria. Only his follow up in 1990 reached these expectations. Since this time the music program on the German and Austrian radio stations has totally changed and such music isn’t played on the big radio stations today, so I doubt that this song will do well. Nevertheless I think this song is a good comeback song. Other debuts are “Dark again” (#65) by Dark Fields, “Don’t you dare to touch her” (#69) by Aurea, “Celebrar” (#84) by Jammil e uma Noites, “The star” (#85) by Aurea, “Altrove” (Elsewhere, #89) by Simonetta Spiri feat. Madback, “Sieh mich an” (Look at me, #96) by “Ewig” and “More than friends” (#97) by Inna.
